Student Perspectives UROP Spring Symposium From the Parents Program
 There has been a lot of excitement on campus as we officially welcome the newly elected President of Georgia Tech, Dr. G.P. “Bud” Peterson and his wife Val, to the Yellow Jacket community. Dr. Peterson will officially start his new position on April 1, 2009. Georgia Tech is thrilled to embark upon a new era of leadership and we encourage all members of the Georgia Tech community to learn more about Dr. Peterson.
The Parents Program is pleased to announce dates for Family Weekend 2009 – September 25 and 26. The weekend will be teaming with fun filled activities including the always popular tailgate before we cheer our Yellow Jackets to victory over the UNC Tar Heels! Save the date and keep posted for additional details coming your way soon!
Don’t forget to joins us for Spring Back to Campus on April 3-5, 2009. Families are welcome to participate in all the weekend activities as we welcome back spring. We look forward to see you soon!

Volunteers Needed: Tech is Coming to Your Area This spring Georgia Tech Admissions and area Georgia Tech Alumni Clubs will partner together to host various receptions to celebrate students who have been admitted to Georgia Tech for the 2009-2010 academic year and their family members. Receptions will be held in the following locations throughout March and April: Birmingham, AL Jacksonville, FL Miami, FL Pensacola, FL Tampa, FL Savannah, GA Augusta, GA Warner Robins/Macon, GA New York/New Jersey Area Charlotte, NC Raleigh, NC Cincinnati, OH Philadelphia, PA Columbia, SC Greenville, SC Chattanooga, TN Austin, TX Dallas, TX Houston, TX Washington, D.C.

Enroll Now for Summer Session
 Georgia Tech is providing undergraduate students a wider range of course offerings for summer term 2009 enrollment. This initiative will help students complete their degree in a timely fashion and may protect students, who benefit from the current guaranteed tuition rate policy, from significant tuition increases in the future. Students interested in summer enrollment can still apply for financial aid assistance at www.finaid.gatech.edu.
Phase I or early registration for the full and short summer 2009 sessions begins March 25 and ends on April 5, 2009. A complete listing of dates for all summer sessions may be found on the Office of the Registrar Web site. Students may find summer course offerings listed on Georgia Tech’s OSCAR system.
Women’s Awareness Month: Share the passion. Change the world.
Sponsored by an array of community organizations including the Women’s Resource Center, Women's Awareness Month brings female role models to the Georgia Tech campus and develops programs that provoke discussion of women's issues and roles in society. Spring 2009 Commencement
While it may be hard to believe, undergraduate commencement is right around the corner. This year, the undergraduate ceremony will be held Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. – noon at the Georgia Dome.
 In the meantime, we encourage your graduate to attend Grad Fair, March 10 - 12, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore @ Georgia Tech. At Grad Fair, students can purchase their academic regalia, class ring, graduation announcements and much more! The first 20 students who purchase academic regalia will receive a FREE Nalgene water bottle. In addition, students can enter the Grad Fair Raffle for a chance to win free graduation merchandise. Drawing is March 12 at 4 p.m., need not be present to win.

Tornado Awareness Campaign

Tornados can occur anywhere and during any time of the year. In Georgia, peak tornado season typically occurs between the months of March and May. In preparation for an active season, the Georgia Tech Office of Emergency Preparedness is introducing a Tornado Awareness Campaign in March to help educate students, faculty and staff about the dangers of tornados and what they can do to prepare. As with any disaster, it is important for students to have a plan in place for communicating with their families during emergencies and a disaster kit that contains basic necessities that may not be available following a disaster. Students should also be knowledgeable of their buildings and where the safest locations are for sheltering during a tornado warning. Read entire article...
Undergraduate Research Spring Symposium and Awards

Georgia Tech will be hosting its 4th annual Undergraduate Research Spring Symposium and Awards on April 1 this year. The event is open to the Georgia Tech community and the public. We encourage you to recommend that your student (particularly freshmen and sophomores) attend the event even if they are not yet involved in research. The symposium brings together undergraduate researchers from all disciplines on campus for both poster and oral presentations. Students are able to browse the presentations, ask questions of the students working on the projects, and get a glimpse of the diversity of research on Georgia Tech’s campus. Read entire article...

The Cycle of Assessment (COA) is the process of continuous assessment within the Division of Student Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Engagement in meaningful assessment work demonstrates results and impacts programs and services within the Division. In the fall of each year, unit directors submit contributions to the development of an annual Assessment Plan for the Division of Student Affairs.
