Turkey's first public bicycle transportation system
It's called a "smart bicycle project." And it gives citizens access to a "special card to check out a bicycle at one station and check it back in at any other station," as they travel across a city. In the Turkish province of Konya, Mayor Tahir Akyürek recently unveiled a plan to implement such a project - the first of its kind in Turkey. He hopes to install 40 bicycle stations "along the tram and main bus lines," with an initial 500 bicycles available for use.

A hydrogen powered tractor recently received a gold medal at the SIMA Innovation Awards, which showcases agri-business developments in Paris. The NH2 tractor is part of New Holland's Energy Independent Farm concept, which "hopes to free farmers from the cost of purchased fossil-fuel and allow them to achieve fuel autonomy."

Several new species discovered in forests of Mozambique... with the help of Google Earth
“This is potentially the biggest area of medium-altitude forest I’m aware of in southern Africa, yet it was not on the map,” claims Jonathan Timberlake, of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew). He recently lead a team of scientists on an expedition to explore unmapped terrain in Mozambique. The largely uncharted terrain surrounding Mount Mabu was made visible by Google Earth, of all things! Timberlake's team reports a variety of discoveries, including "new species of butterfly and snake, along with seven Globally Threatened birds."
