Mia's Tech Tip: Digital Bucket online
file storage
Store your files in Digital Bucket and access them from
anywhere you have Internet connection
As much as we might be suspicious, or even downright paranoid, about entrusting personal or confidential information with a third party, secure online file storage makes sense for two reasons: (1) in a natural - or unnatural - disaster, even your backup external hard drive might be obliterated; and (2) there are situations where you might need a file from your computer and you don't have your computer or external hard drive with you. Digital Bucket provides a safe place for you to store your files, which you can then access from anywhere with an Internet connection and a web browser. The service is still in beta, so at the moment, you can only sign up for 1GB of storage (which is free). Paid plans will be priced from $15 per year for 2GB of storage to $150 per year for 25GB. The photo album capability is a nice feature, as you can browse photos directly from your Digital Bucket account. Word and Excel documents can be edited, and PowerPoint presentations can be viewed without having the software installed on the computer you're working from. It's a good solution for working remotely while traveling light.
