TLD Talent Network Roundtable Examines New Jersey's Transportation, Logistics, and Distribution Workforce Needs on November 24, 2008
Anyone with an interest in the future workforce needs of New Jersey's Transportation, Logistics, and Distribution (TLD) sector is invited to attend a TLD Talent Network Roundtable discussion on Monday, November 24, 2008. The event will be held at Kean University in Union, NJ.
The New Jersey TLD Talent Network has been created by the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University in partnership with the North Jersey Partners WIRED region. They have joined with 14 local colleges, universities, employers, industry associations, and workforce development organizations to strengthen the state's supply-chain workforce.
The Roundtable will give representatives from the TLD industry, educators, workforce development leaders, and industry experts the opportunity to discuss employer needs and identify strategies for meeting the sector's need for skilled workers. Discussions will focus on the hiring and recruitment of workers, the development of new curricula, improved awareness of careers in the industry for potential workers, and incumbent worker training.

New Jersey's goods movement sector employs more than 340,000 individuals in a wide variety of occupations, including warehouse handlers, truck drivers, mechanics, and supply chain logisticians. Advances in technology and increased global competition are transforming all aspects of the industry, leading to new skill requirements for many jobs. The TLD Talent Network will: - Identify industry workforce needs through extensive employer engagement;
- Develop new curricula and refine existing curricula to meet industry needs;
- Disseminate improved information about the workforce needs of the sector to students, job seekers, job/career counselors, and job developers;
- Assist individuals to obtain employment in the industry and strengthen career ladders in the sector; and
- Improve incumbent worker training that assists employers to adjust to new technologies and assist employees to obtain new skills.
The TLD Talent Network is funded by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education, the North Jersey Partners WIRED region, and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. |
