It was great for us. How was it for you?2008 had so many victories....
With 3 new full time staff members at the UCCP this year, we were able to increase our power by 200%! But every day, we were fortunate enough to support an amazing and dedicated group of college and high school students called the Leaders Corps. Let us tell you instead what they did in 2008: - Empowered over 150 youth through the Temple Youth VOICES Project and the P.O.W.E.R. Internship to become CONFIDENT, EFFECTIVE leaders.
- Led workshops and presented at conferences across the region speaking on progressive youth leadership development, youth and media, and urban youth issues.
- Organized forums, a youth press conference, screenings and events for youth and the community around such topics as education, voting and healthcare.
- Trained and worked with our participants to create media projects and campaigns addressing issues like violence, incarceration, drugs, teen pregnancy, and youth representation in the media.
- Blogged about the impact of the Mayor's budget cuts on Philadelphia's youth and vulnerable communities.
- Partnered with organizations like Philadelphia Museum of Art, Arthur Ashe Tennis and Education, Red Cross, BUSTED!, Student Success Centers and more to support new youth programs and initiatives.
- Worked every day to make Philadelphia and the world a better place for young people to Live, Learn and Lead.
What was your favorite part about 2008?
