 Things have been super busy around here. On top of my new work and this latest showing, I've started teaching darkroom photography at a west side high school - some really talented kids. Jonathan Michael Johnson Showing in Pilsen This Weekend  An example of my new 2nd gen work (see below) will be on display this weekend at The Chicago Art Department. Opening officially on Saturday night with a big party, $25 at the door covers a whole night of art, drinks and food. If you can't make Saturday, there's a there's a sneak preview of the new show coinciding with the monthly Pilsen gallery walk, this Friday, from 6-10p. New Work: 2nd Gen Prototype  A prototype for my 2nd generation of work, this piece consists of an archival print plus an 2 additional layers. Several layers of UV protective veneer act as adhesive, holding a transparent stencil cut overlay. The overlay explores a shared history of the subject through symbols, icons and words. The effect is something like Art Nouveau meets Tron. View more... New Work: South View No. 2  So quickly things change. This view from my roof used to be a clean, undeveloped expanse. My Trib Article = Our Waste of Time  I'm a bit embarrassed that a 45 minute interview amounted to a little more than a sentence. And it's a sentence that clearly promotes the articles goal, and has no bearing on my work. Rather, in the context of the article, it co-opts any artistic integrity I could have hoped for. So, I apologize to you, my supporters, for any confusion. I'd like to think that any publicity is good publicity, but it's a shame it didn't come together better. Read more...
