The MailChimp Team Is Growing
Three new people just started here at MailChimp, making the grand total 17. James will be joining our dev team, as web designer. Liza and "Redd" are joining Jennifer, Juliana, and Raul on the support team. Hmm, I don't think I ever mentioned Raul. He joined us a while back, and I haven't had a chance to blog or feature him in an email newsletter yet. Raul's the guy you're live-chatting with if you're speaking Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Russian. He's our "BabbleChimp" (nerd alert). He'll be hosting Spanish and French webinars soon, too. Be on the lookout.

MailChimp Training Academy
A few weeks ago, our good friend Josh joined the MailChimp team. Josh loves explaining things with moving pictures, so we asked him to be our new Minister of Education. He's heading up the MailChimp Training Academy, which will be a series of online videos that new customers can watch and learn all the basics of MailChimp. Kind of like going to a local seminar, except you can watch these without wearing pants.

Want a sneak peek? Here are a few prototypes from Josh.
It's a work in progress, and you might catch a glimpse of the new MailChimp.com website we're hoping to launch shortly:

MailChimp Servers
Come to think of it, I never mentioned Alex, either. He joined us late last year, and is in charge of managing all our servers (I'm told we're up to 15 servers in 2 different data centers now, not counting all the "cloud" stuff). I am also told we'll be adding between 6-10 new servers this year to handle the increase in users we've been experiencing since early 2008. We're over 60,000 users now, and email delivery volume has increased nearly 15-fold since January 1, 2008. Holy cow.

MailChimp On Twitter
If you follow MailChimp on Twitter, or if you've been to our Facebook Fan Page, or the MailChimp Jungle, you've probably come across Amanda. She joined us a couple months ago, and is in charge of all MailChimp gorilla marketing.

MailChimp T-Shirts
A little while back, we redesigned the MailChimp logo. Now, we've got cool new MailChimp t-shirts! Read about them here.

Our New Supercomputer
We recently ordered a supercomputer for a couple of secret projects we're working on in the MailChimp Lab. We got an Nvidia Tesla, which is  billed as the "World's first teraflop many-core processor."

Apparently, it's mostly being used by universities and research institutes to study weather, fluid dynamics, and life sciences. Boooooorr-ing. We're gonna use it to make email marketing more useful & fun. Well, after we learn a new programming language that can actually handle parallel computing.

Anyway, when we ordered the supercomputer, some of us had this picture in our heads of what it would look like. Personally, I envisioned the monolith in 2010 Space Odyssey.

But when it finally came, some of us were a little disappointed. It just looks like a regular old desktop computer!

Where are the cooling coils, and blinking lights, and smoke effects? Where are the friggin' lasers? I guess supercomputers are pretty boring now.

Even more strange: it actually came with a copy of some Tom Clancy Ghost Recon game. Because, you know---that's why we bought it. To play games. Anyway, we thought we'd try to make the supercomputer more exciting with a video.

By the time I actually get around to writing another newsletter, the supercomputer might be operational, and I'll have an update for you. Trust me though, it's going to be awesome.

Addictomatic robot
I use Addictomatic to track news about MailChimp.  Mainly because it uses cute  robots. You type in your company keyword, then bookmark the results page. Try it for your own company!

New Riders Press Logo
I'm working on a book for New Riders called, "Secrets of Successful Email Marketing Projects." It's going to be full of useful tips to help you get your email marketing projects done. Pitfalls, common mistakes, dealing with clients, nightmare stories, planning the project, etc. If you've got a story to share, email me. I'd love to feature as many MailChimp customers as possible. It's due in June (oh crud, time to start writing!).

SXSW
MailChimp's Aarron Walter will be speaking at SXSW this year, and Amanda will be there as well (she's a geek, and she loves to bowl). If you run into either of them, make sure you ask for a MailChimp t-shirt.
