Inside this issue... How Does Your Garden Grow?Hi <<First Name>>, I live in what's fondly known as the salad bowl of the United States, California's Central Valley. Every day I drive past citrus and nut orchards, vineyards and dairies. All of this is overshadowed by the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains.
When spring bursts upon us, I get excited about planting flowers and vegetables. I want my yard to bloom with bursts of brilliant color, and I want to step outside my back door to pick the ingredients for my salsa. Then common sense rears its head. Do I really want to spend an hour or two a day weeding plants and checking for bugs?
I did plant a couple of grape vines in the fall. They lost their leaves in the winter, and I wondered if they would survive the cold. Then suddenly last week I saw buds on the plants, and this week leaves burst out. I was so excited I sent a text message to some of my friends and even updated my Facebook account.
I'll never be a master gardener, but I do enjoy seeing the fruit of my labors. My yard won't be perfectly tended, and it will never be free of weeds or bugs. But I have a new appreciation for God as the gardener of our lives, and understand a little bit more about being connected to the vine.

Industry Interview Writing "The Shack": Author Paul Young by Angela Walker In 2007, author William Paul Young ignited a firestorm within the Christian and publishing communities with his novel The Shack. Originally written as a story for his children, he had no idea that the allegory of his own journey would rise to the top of the New York Times' Bestseller list, the USA Today Bestseller list, and that of any other publication tracking book sales. You originally wrote the story for your family. How has it impacted them?
Paul: I thankfully have a very healthy family. I’ve got six kids who all love Jesus. They all have their own relationship with him. I didn’t write this story to try to communicate something to them so they’d change. If anything, it has opened up our conversations about people because we’re around all kinds of people now that we weren’t before.
If anything, it has profoundly increased our respect for the human creation and for the incredible wonder that’s inside of people. It doesn’t matter if they’ve got position or power or money; those kinds of things really don’t matter at all, and we get to be around a lot of people that we wouldn’t have otherwise. It is such an incredible joy. [ Read more... ] Uncle Nino Brings Family Together Againby Angela Walker Uncle Nino premiered in theaters in 2005 and is coming out on DVD April 7, 2009. A Mom's Take on "Knowing"
by Lynne Thompson
Knowing sets the stage for very significant discussions about worldview. For instance, if one believes in a random universe where human existence just “showed up,” how does that affect the way you currently live? Is life one existential merry-go-round, or is there an intelligent being who put us here? Should faith fall by the wayside when we lack current empirical evidence? This is a very touching and moving story of one man's trials and tribulations which try his faith. Angus is a very intense man who fights his own inner demons with his farm in Africa and family until he makes a life changing discovery. He turns his life around when he gives it to God. With new found faith that is challenged by many different circumstances he must believe that the Lord has a plan for him. We all face challenges in our lives and sometimes question our own faith. This movie may make everyone take a hard look at their own lives and see that changes can be made. This story will have you looking at your own spiritual life in a new light. Dove awards the "Family-Approved" Seal to this film. Due to some intense scenes we recommend it for ages 12 and over. |
