Inside this issue... 3 Reasons to be in a ParadeHi <<First Name>>, Have you ever been in a parade? Did you ride a float or march in a band? Maybe you were a twirler with flaming batons. Our city held its annual Christmas Parade down Main Street and we decorated a float for it. It was so much fun for everyone we decided to do it again next year. Along the way, we discovered at least three reasons to be in a parade. One: It's a great opportunity to work together on something outside of the office. You learn about each others' creative abilities, like masterful construction of a paper chain. Two: Your families get to know each other. One of the kids loves "tickle hugs," and two of the boys are natural performers. Three: You get to see each other in your pajamas. If, that is, your float theme is similar to ours: a family gathered in the living room enjoying their favorite movies. It was a cold and wet night, but we laughed, ate popcorn, and waved until our arms were tired. If there’s a parade in your town, join it. Build a float, march in a band, or dance down the street. It’s a joyous way to celebrate Christmas. "A Mom's Take" on Movies
Lynne Thompson and her husband Pete, a Christian therapist, live in California’s Central Valley with their two children Cassie (14) and David (12). Though she has only 2 kids, the 6 seats in her van are usually full. Her days are filled with paying bills, picking up around the house, running errands, squeezing in a workout and managing website outages for her site SoccerMomBook.com. Lynne brings her unique perspective to films by examining what they say about culture, how they compare to a Biblical worldview, and presents post-movie talking points so you can discuss films with your kids. Industry Interview Directing "Horton Hears a Who" by Angela Walker Steve Martino, who was art director for the animated film “Robots,” brought his imagination and artistic talent to his role as co-director of Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who. This fanciful tale by Dr. Seuss is the third of his books to be adapted to screen, but the first fully animated with CGI (Computer Generated Images) technology. The DVD comes out on December 9, and the limited edition includes games and screen tests with the animators. Several critics said they thought Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who is one of the most faithful film adaptations of a Dr. Seuss book yet. What were some of the challenges you faced in doing the film?
Steve I am a huge fan of Dr. Seuss and I loved his books when I was a kid. I read them to my two girls who are now 14 and 11, and I felt a responsibility to hold up his work. When you take a book into feature film, clearly the format of a feature film is going to be longer. What we endeavored to do on the writing side was stay true to the theme of the book and look at the story he gave us and use that as a foundation. Christian Bashing in Filmby Michael Boyer In the first decade of the 21st century, Hollywood's persistent agenda of assaulting Christians has picked up momentum both on television and at the neighborhood multiplex. The 2006 financial bonanza for "The Da Vinci Code" emboldened more anti-Christian filmmakers to enter the feeding frenzy.
Likewise, the 2004 success of Passion of the Christ opened the doors for a new generation of Christian filmmakers who were getting exhibition at mainstream movie theaters. Fireproof by Alex and Stephen Kendrick of Sherwood Pictures in Albany, Georgia, proved that Christian filmmakers can get wide theatrical distribution across America and around the world. Dr. Suess Horton Hears A Who - DVD
One of Dr. Seuss' most beloved stories roars to life as never before
DVD release: 12/09/08
Review:
When I saw the film during its theatrical release, it struck me as the most surprisingly conservative film to come out of Hollywood in a long, long time. At the center of the tale is, of course, the elephant Horton who, because of his very large ears, can hear the cries of the tiny Whos, adrift on what appears to be a speck of dust. Also at the center—at least in the film version—is the Mayor of Whoville who, because of a trick of technology, can hear the voice of the godlike protector Horton. While Horton has a hard time convincing the jungle establishment that insignificants like the Whos actually exist, and is treated like a heretic, the Mayor is ridiculed and belittled for thinking that there’s something bigger than the Whos, a force than guides and protects them from up in the heavens.
Not so long ago, Jim Carrey—who voices Horton—starred in Peter Weir’s The Truman Show, an extended metaphor for the disillusioning enlightenment that, if a god does exist, he’s just a sadistic exploiter of unsuspecting marionettes. In Horton, that kind of cynicism is flipped entirely, with anthropocentrism challenged in all its forms. Horton’s friends have to learn that Second World (and smaller) residents count, too; and the Whos must learn that belief in a Greater Power is warranted.

"Jefferson Moore evidently knows Jesus on a personal level, and through these modern parables he is able to successfully introduce the viewer- for the first time or perhaps the thousandth time- into a deeper understanding of who Jesus is and who He wants to be in our everyday lives." "I liked this show a lot. Greg Robbins did a really good job. A lot of the scenes are genuinely funny. The scenes that are serious they do not poke fun at, and that's good. I think the show should have been longer, maybe an hour or even 90 minutes. But it is designed to be a half-hour sitcom. Some of the acting wasn't the greatest, but some of it I think was intentional for added humor. Kind of paying homage to other comedy shows. Overall, it's a very good program, and much better than most of the shows on cable or network TV today." [ Read more... ] Buyer Review Rating: Stop & Think - DVD by Milton Kleim
