Inside this issue... Rites of Passage Hi <<First Name>>, It's the last week of May and students are graduating from high school and college. Some will leave home for the first time to attend college; others will enter the work force and get a full-time job. I loved my college years. I made wonderful friendships and had some great professors who took an interest in me and my success. I even considered teaching at a college because my time there had such an impact on me. It was also a time of personal growth. For the first time, I really owned my faith. I needed to know what I believed and why I believed it, separate of my parents. At the Bible college I attended, we had regular chapel services with lots of great speakers, and I took several Bible classes. But I still had to dig in and study the Scripture for myself. During my last year in college, I experienced what Paul Young describes in The Shack as "a Great Sadness." After many years battling heart problems, my mother died. Like many of us, when life deals us tragic blows, I questioned God's plan and His goodness. Helping me begin my recovery process were my wonderful college friends and caring professors. Even now, I remember the many kind things they did for my sister and me, as well as conversations about the loving nature of God, and what it means to be healed. Many events and people influence us as we become adults, shaping us into God's design for our lives. If you have a high school or college senior, be grateful for the person they are, and pray for who they will become. From the screening room, Angela Walker ChristianMovieNews.com Industry Interview The Shack Author Paul Young by Angela Walker To talk with Paul Young is to realize he is a man who had an extraordinary encounter with his God that changed his life. He is in the middle of supporting a friend whose son is in crisis but has the time to talk with me about all things related to The Shack. You wrote the story originally for your family. How has it impacted them? Paul: I thankfully have a very healthy family. I’ve got six kids who all love Jesus. They all have their own relationship with him. I didn’t write this story to try to communicate something to them so they’d change. If anything, it has opened up our conversations about people because we’re around all kinds of people now that we weren’t before. If anything, it has profoundly increased our respect for the human creation and for the incredible wonder that’s inside of people. It doesn’t matter if they’ve got position or power or money; those kinds of things really don’t matter at all, and we get to be around a lot of people that we wouldn’t have otherwise. It is such an incredible joy. [ Read more... ] It's Not a Movie, It's the Real Thing by Alan Schwarz - New York Times Awakened residents thought it was a gas explosion, maybe a sonic boom. "This is a keeper so it's on my wish list of DVDs to have. While aligning God's Holy Word with biblical archaeological research in the Middle East, we find in this DVD no reason to doubt anything about the story of Exodus. If you believe in God you must believe in miracles and the parting of the Red Sea was not just a miracle but we learn based on the topography of the sea floor, that there was a location where the crossing took place. A great companion DVD is "In Search of the Real Mt. Sinai". Both DVDs compliment each other though research was conducted by different people. " [ Read more... ]
