Inside this issue... Bright Ideas and New Year’s ResolutionsHi <<First Name>>, Did you make any resolutions for this year? One of the most popular activities on January 1st is the unveiling of New Year’s resolutions. Personally, I quit making resolutions a few years ago because of my poor track record for keeping them.
The other day when a co-worker asked what my New Year’s resolutions were, I told her I have none. To which she replied, “Maybe you should choose the one you’re succeeding at now.” A light bulb went on. I made some decisions about my health in August and acted on them.
I can make life resolutions any time of the year. They don’t have to be limited to New Year’s Day. Any day of the year, I can decide I want a healthier lifestyle, a stronger marriage, or to deepen my relationship with God, and act on it.
So with that in mind, my New Year’s resolution is: When I identify (or God points out) something in my life that needs to be changed, I resolve to act on it. It might be in January, March, or the middle of June. The date doesn’t matter. What matters is that I do something about it.

Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner behind. Inside burning buildings, it's his natural instinct. In the cooling embers of his marriage, it's another story. After seven years of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that they are ready to move on without each other. Yet as they prepare to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's dad asks his son to try an experiment: The Love Dare. While hoping The Love Dare has nothing to do with his parents' newfound faith, Caleb commits to the challenge. But can he attempt to love his wife while avoiding God's love for him? Will he be able to demonstrate love over and over again to a person that's no longer receptive to his love? Or is this just another marriage destined to go up in smoke?
Industry Interview Screenwriter Brian Bird by Angela Walker Brian Bird has worked in Hollywood for more than 20 years as a writer, producer and show-runner for both television and theatrical projects, including Touched by an Angel. In partnership with Michael Landon, Jr., Brian developed and wrote screenplays for Saving Sarah Cain and The Last Sin Eater. Two years ago Brian began working on the screenplay for Not Easily Broken, based on a book by Bishop T.D. Jakes, which releases nationally this week. This film has been in development since 2006. How did you get attached to the film? Brian: I finished the first draft of the screenplay just before Michael (Landon, Jr.) and I started prepping The Last Sin Eater. So I moved from this screenplay right into that project. We got involved because Michael met Bishop T.D. Jakes (who wrote the source novel) at one of the Christian Booksellers’ Association’s events. It was a year or so prior to that when Women Thou Art Loosed was released, and they had a nice meeting. They talked about the possibility of working together at some point. Then when the Bishop wrote this book, Michael and a few other people suggested me as a writer for the screenplay. I’ve written several scripts dealing with the African-American experience and community during my career, and ...

He certainly couldn’t have imagined that his widely acclaimed movie Bella would literally save lives and souls. But that’s the story that author Tim Drake tells so well in his book "Behind Bella." As the book shows, God’s hand was on Eduardo and on the making of the movie from the very beginning. To prepare for his role in Bella, Eduardo wanted to find a real-life Nina—the co-lead in the film struggling with her unwanted pregnancy. So Eduardo paid a visit to a local abortion clinic. [ Read more... ] Creating an Epic: The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttonby Angela Walker Creating an epic is never an easy task, even if you have a script from an Academy Award-winning screenwriter (Eric Roth, Forrest Gump), producers responsible for some of the biggest box office hits in history (Kathy Kennedy and Frank Marshall, E.T., Jurassic Park, The Sixth Sense, Indiana Jones series), and box office stars Brad Pitt (Ocean’s 11, 12, 13 and Babel) and Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth, The Aviator).
Based on a short story written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the early 1900s, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has been floating around Hollywood for nearly 40 years. Robin Swicord wrote a first draft of the script in 1992, but it was another 16 years, multiple drafts and an estimated $150 million before the movie was produced. Dove Review: The Dark ages of Britain were fought to defend the country from barbarians and to protect their belief in God. This is a powerful story of one young man's journey to continue to fight the battle. It is a battle that his father was called upon by God to conduct. When his father and family are murdered by the invading Saxons, Artos continues the quest and looks for the answers in his faith. There are several battle scenes shown one right after another, so the viewers are subject to many fighting scenes that include swords, axes and weapons of the Dark Ages. Although the battles rage on and people are murdered, the scenes are not very graphic. This movie does encourage faith and we award it our Dove Seal.
