Welcome! On behalf of the School of Continuing Education, I hope you are having an excellent fall semester and that your classes are going well.
We are very appreciative of your participation in our off-campus and distance-learning classes. I'm happy to report that, this fall's School of Continuing Education enrollment hit an all-time high of 2,100, an increase of 5 percent. Our BGS Degree Program also had record fall enrollment of more than 500.
As you will see in this newsletter, we are planning several events for National Nontraditional Student Week (Nov. 2-7). I hope you will be able to attend.

Conversations for Success: Appreciative Advising and the Adult Learner
Kaye Woodward and Kimberly Redfern gave a presentation on “Conversations for Success: Appreciative Advising and the Adult Learner” at the NACADA National Conference in Chicago on Oct. 2. Woodward, director of BGS Degree Program, is pictured at the conference with Redfern and Audrey Bachelder, BGS academic advisers.

Non-Credit Online Courses Update your skills, discover a new talent, or chart a career path at your own pace and convenience with our new online courses. Each course runs for six weeks and consists of 12 lessons. All you need to get started is Internet access, an e-mail address and a Web browser. Online Career Training Programs Outstanding online career and workforce training programs, these in-depth and comprehensive self-paced online programs are open for immediate enrollment. Program lengths are 90 days to 12 months. Instructors are actively involved in students’ online learning experience. Each program includes everything you need to succeed (books, CD-ROM, lessons, quizzes and assignments)!

New Staff Members Join the School of Continuing Education
Janna Overstreet joined the staff on Sept. 1 as project coordinator. Janna will be in charge of the Academy of Lifetime Learning, development of new and continuing grants, recruitment of off-campus faculty, and program development and delivery. Welcome, Janna!
Anna Peterson joined the staff on Aug. 1 at our EIU office at Parkland College in Champaign. Anna will handle the clerical work in support of our EIU office. Welcome, Anna!
