Maria Mattson, 2007 Holiday Card

The College of Arts & Letters invites students to submit artwork for their 2008 holiday cards.   

Three cards will be produced and featured on shop.msu.edu and the first place card  will be used as the College’s holiday card. 

First prize will receive a $300.00 honorarium. Second and third will receive $100.00.

Work can be any media – created specifically for the card or a work that already exists.  Send your entries as high-resolution jpeg images to wordmich@msu.edu by Thursday, November 6 at 5:00 pm.  Please only one entry per student.

Noted ceramicist Jeanne Quinn will discuss her work in a public lecture on October 26 at 7:00 PM in Kresge Art Center, 108.
 
Quinn is interested in notions of gender, the structure of language and communication, and the history of objects and their use.  She is a MacDowell Colony Fellow and faculty member at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

PUMPKIN ART & COSTUME CONTEST
October 31 - Noon

Steve Baibak, The Great Pumpkin Art Museum, 2007

The third annual Pumpkin Art and Costume Contest is slated for Friday, October 31 at 12:00 PM in the Kresge Art Center Lobby.  Join us for a festive lunch and to find out if the reigning two-year champion will take home another $100.00 Art Store gift certificate for Best of Show.  And don't forget to don a costume to compete for special prizes...ATD students, we're hoping you'll show us how it's done this year! 

The contest will be judged by Apparel & Textile Design professor Carol Beard, Art History Professor Jon Frey, and Studio Art Professor Robert McCann.  All pumpkin art entries must be delivered to the Art Cafe between October 30 (8-5) and October 31 before 11:00. 

Best of Show will receive a $100.00 gift certificate for the Art Store, second will receive a $50.00 gift certificate, and third will receive a $25.00 gift certificate.  This is your chance to prove you can make art out of anything...and to compete for special costume prizes!

STUDIO ART FACULTY EXHIBITION
OPENING RECEPTION - NOV. 7, 9 PM 

 
Continuing a long tradition of successful collaboration between the Department of Art & Art History and the Kresge Art Museum, the 2008 Studio Art Faculty Biennial will showcase the recent work of twenty-two studio art faculty members.
 
MSU’s studio art faculty make significant contributions to the arts, regularly exhibiting in venues from New York City to South Korea. Collectively they have received recognition and support from Fulbright, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Pollack Krasner Foundation. Representing a broad-range of media and contemporary art approaches, the exhibition highlights the faculty’s dedication to actively pursuing creative research.
 
The public is invited to join the artists for an opening reception on Friday, November 7 from 7:00–9:00 p.m.
