Louis' Team In Training Progress Report - Number 4 Hello everyone. Here's another installment of how I'm doing with my great biking adventure. June 7 is rapidly approaching and the team and I are all working hard to get ready for the big event. How am I doing? Fund-raising I want to thank everyone again for helping me reach and exceed my minimum fund-raising goal. I have raised $4,160 as of today! So now that I've met that goal, it's time to reset the target to $5000. If you haven't yet made your tax deductible charitable contribution to this very worthy cause, you still have time. Please visit my donation page now to join the effort to help find a cure for blood cancers. No amount is too small - every dollar counts. Here's where to go: http://pages.teamintraining.org/los/ambbr09/lcetorelli. Training The miles keep piling on. With a couple days still left in April I've already logged over 500 miles for the month. Driving a car is beginning to feel strange. My weekly routine is now a mixture of strong effort climbing rides, moderate effort on rolling hills, intense short and repeated bursts of leg strength drills, very long rides with the team, and a couple of lightweight beach rides in between. On Sunday I don't even look at my bike. I've been using this great book, Cycling Past 50 by Joe Friel, as a training guide and it has helped keep me focused to make solid progress. There's a whole new vocabulary that comes with it... periodization, pyramiding, adaptation, lactate threshold, VO2 Max and on and on. I've even crossed the fashion threshold and have taken to wearing spandex shorts on our long team rides. I was a skeptic but they actually serve a purpose and provide much more comfort on those rides that exceed a few hours. The team rides continue to get longer and harder. We've done a couple back-to-back Saturdays of 60+ mile rides with climbs of 3000 to 4000 feet. Coach gave us a break for our last Saturday ride, virtually flat all the way along the Pacific Coast Highway from Long Beach to Laguna and back. But just to keep us from getting too comfortable, he increased the ride to 70+ miles. He also forgot to mention that the final 35 miles would be into a strong headwind. So much for getting a break! Next week it's another 75 miles in the hills of Malibu and the week after that is my first organized event, "Crusin' the Conejo". It's 68 miles through the Conejo Valley. Not sure how many cyclists will participate but it is sure to be packed. Don't forget to shop at my online store.
