First-String Vodka

A friend of mine is fond of the minis — the ones that get through security — so, I bought these for him as souvenirs. (Hey, I don't mind carrying around less weight, either.) The line-up was strong: Viru Valge even had an 80% version, but yikes, only in a larger bottle; Saaremaa is from the bucolic island of the same name, which does, indeed, have a few gentle giants left; and The Tall Blond. Could the latter be a slick attempt by the enterprising Estonians to create some cross-border buzz? In fact, lots of Estonian women are tall blondes.
Naturally and strikingly so, although I noticed a big hair-dying craze. "The queen of vodka" tagline, however, detracts from the fun.

Glass jar. Representing the best caviar at the grocery store, lesser options (lump fish, for example) went for around $2.60 packed in a plastic container. Since 80 grams set me back only 40 Kroons ($4), I figured I'd go for the best. Returning by plane in freezing weather, it made it to my friends' house in Finland, but they weren't biting. So, on it went — to Lapland and back — at -16°C temps
and unopened! Yes, wicked restraint! Finally...yum! Don't hate me, but concerned about spoilage, I threw out the rest.

Not one, but one dozen tulips cost from $1 to $1.20 (depending on the color an
d vendor). Had I gotten some for the room, it would have been a great opportunity to interact with the locals. There were other Spring bulbs in bloom...Johnny Jump-ups and Lili-of-the-Valley types, like on the Easter cards I'd seen.
