Dear MailChimp APIer,
We are writing to give you advance notice of upcoming changes to the MailChimp API. You will NOT need to make any changes to your current integration, but we encourage you to do so, as we plan to eventually phase out support for the current API sometime in the distant future.
The updated API will provide significant functional enhancements (almost anything you could do in our application, you can now do via the API). There are some things you can do in the API that you can't do via the application. FTW.
New Functionality The update is currently scheduled for August 9 & 10 and will include the following new features:
- Segmentation (up to 10 criteria)
- Automatic plain-text email generator
- embedded-to-inline CSS convertor
- A/B split testing
- Campaign editing/updating
- Managing Merge Vars and Interest Groups
- 60+ well defined, documented error codes
- Ability to import a campaign's content from a URL
Email Updates This is our first attempt at sending an email specifically to our API users. That's because we've never required our customers to register or pay for the API. While that makes it easier for you to get started, it makes it harder to warn customers of upcoming changes. We got some pretty angry emails from API users the last time we upgraded. Lesson learned. So we'll be sending updates to you as we roll out version 1.1, and for future enhancements of the API. We got your email address by tracking down all accounts using the API, and then using the email address of the account administrator.
If you are not the best person to receive these updates, please reply to this email indicating which email address we should use in the future.
Showcase Your Work We're very excited to see how subscribers are using all of the new API features. If you've got a case study you'd like to share with us, simply fill out this questionnaire, and we'll blog about you and post it here.
It's Been A While In case you haven't been active or needed support in a while, you should know that we now have a dedicated team working on the API and managing API support requests. We've seriously beefed up the API to do just about anything you can imagine, and the documentation is totally updated with the ability for developers to upload and share tips.
Feel free to send us some questions. Our office hours are 9-5 am ET and we try to respond to all emails within one working day.
We are always interested in hearing more about how the API is working for you and new features you would like to see in the future. Please send your feedback to api@mailchimp.
Regards,
MailChimp API Team
