Cruise Ship Update... Carnival Victory and MV Aurora call to Port of Portland next week...

Next week, two cruise ships the Carnival Victory and MV Aurora will call to port in Portland. The Carnival Victory, a Carnival Cruise Line ship, arrives Monday carrying 2,758 passengers. This visit is the first of four trips to Portland this season. Having begun its seven day sail in New York City, the Carnival Victory will leave Portland at the end of the day for Saint John, New Brunswick.  With a length of 893 feet and weight of 101,509 tons, the boat carries a crew of 1,100.

The MV Aurora, operated by P&O Cruises a part of Carnival Corporation, will call to port on Friday for a full day stop carrying 1,870 passengers. Christened in 2000 by HRH Princess Anne, the 885 foot long ship began its twenty-four day sail Saturday in Southhampton, UK and following its stop in Portland will continue north to Bar Harbor. In March 2001, the MV Aurora was involved in a rescue of eleven Russian seamen after their cargo ship capsized and sank in the South China Sea. During the rescue attempt, Aurora's crew battled bad weather, swells and strong wind in small rescue boats to rescue the Russian seamen floating in the water. The Aurora and several other ships in the area were able t o save the lives of eleven of the nineteen-member crew.

The Carnival Victory arrives September 8 at 8:00 AM and departs at 6:00 PM
The MV Aurora arrives September 12 at 8:00 AM and departs at 6:00 PM
