Important MDOT Traffic Alert for Freeport... FREEPORT EXIT 22 SOUTHBOUND RAMP TO CLOSE TEMPORARILY STARTING ON TUESDAY The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will perform emergency road repairs on the Exit 22 southbound ramp in Freeport, beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9. The repairs will require closure of the southbound ramp for up to three days, and southbound traffic bound for in-town Freeport, or for Mallet Drive and connections to Routes 125 and 136, will need to use Exit 20 (Desert Road, two miles to the south on I-295), while the work is being done. The work that will be done involves emergency replacement of a culvert that was damaged during heavy rains in Freeport a few weeks ago. The 30-inch culvert (pipe), which runs beneath the ramp, has come apart. MaineDOT is acting quickly following discovery of the problem, which presents immediate concerns for the integrity of the roadway. Signage will be in place on I-295 to inform travelers of the roadwork and to redirect traffic to Exit 20. The Exit 22 southbound ramp will be fully closed from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, September 9 through 11. If the work takes less than three days, the ramp will be re-opened as soon as work is completed. MaineDOT highway workers will be conducting the work. For more information, contact MaineDOT Region 1 Highway Maintenance Supervisor Tim Cusick at 885-7000, or Mark Latti or Herb Thomson in the MaineDOT Office of Communications, at 624-3030.
