Dean Sumichrast fields questions regarding Economic Outlook.
The economy is big news right now, which made the Georgia Economic Outlook luncheon big news in Atlanta. TV and print journalists, along with about 1,000 registered guests heard Dean Robert Sumichrast (pictured above) and magazine publisher Steve Forbes describe the grim short-term outlook, with hopes for a recovery to begin late in 2009. More »

Terry adds Fast-Track Professional MBA
A second version of Terry's Executive MBA program — called the Fast-Track Professional MBA — will replace the college's Evening MBA program in Atlanta. The new program will begin weeknight classes next fall, incorporating many of the Executive MBA's most distinctive elements. More »

UGA ranks in top five of new 'payback' survey
The University of Georgia ranks in the top five for its "student payback ratio" among national universities, both public and private, according to Smart Money magazine. UGA graduates earn a median salary of $44,100 four years after graduation and $86,000 15 years after graduation, the survey reported. More »

Business Analysis Certificate Programs offered
The Terry College is now offering certificate programs in business analysis, one of several new executive programs being launched in 2009, at the Terry Executive Education Center in Atlanta. The college is partnering with Advanced Strategies Inc. on the new series. More »

Study: Happiness helps you see the big picture
Research by marketing professor Vanessa Patrick and her co-author shows that positive moods can increase our ability to understand the big picture. The Journal of Consumer Research study explains how being in a good mood allows people to step back emotionally.

Obituaries for two longtime finance professors
Friends and colleagues in the Finance Department mourned the passing of two longtime professors. Mark Hanna, who taught Investments and Securities Analysis from 1963 through the 1980s, died Dec. 28 in Athens. He was 82. James C. Fortson, who held a joint appointment in finance and the Warnell School of Forest Resources, died Jan. 7 in Athens. Fortson, who was a part of UGA's faculty and staff for more than 40 years, was 76.
